Hi Cheaplazymom.

The best of luck with your venture.

I think you have to avoid tacky advertising - but ads don't have to be tacky. In fact, the more integrated they are with your content the more effective they will be.

I'm afraid we justed funded Storynory our of our pockets. Now it more or less pays for itself, but that's about it so far. The secret is, keep your costs low.

I don't think that people will buy anything online form a name they don't know. If you are selling Disney cheaper than on Amazon - sure - but if you are selling your own content that no one has heard of, then I'm feel it has to be free to get established.

I'm considering my options for providing low or no- cost video content for children online. I agree with you that everyone wants it free, but you have left out the specifics of how you get paid (or at the very least pay the bills of running a site and hosting downloads). I gather it is part google ads and part sales of your book. I am hesitant to rely on advertising because part of what I would like to be an alternative to is the horrible commercialization of childhood and the targeting of children by the people who make and sell crap. As a parent, I would rather pay a small fee and be spared the ads.
