Prohibition Doesn’t Work

Fox hunting continues with a few modifications, despite the ban.

Imperial Tobacco is selling just as many ciggies in Scotland as before the ban on smoking in public places.

Now Tessa Jowell our “cultural” Secretary wants to curb online gambling, although she does have the good sense to talk about what happened under Prohibition in 1920s (probably the booziest decade in American history).

  1. And yesterday the transport committee demanded drink/driving crackdowns, more speed cameras, traffic police and other authoritarian controls on motorists. I thought the stats had just shown the main problem was driver inattention and poor roads. But not so much fun to spend taxpayers money on improving roads or engaging our hearts and minds. Just introduce new legislation and more bans.
