Newspapers Become Radio Stations

One of the fascinating things about new media is the way that different forms of communication constantly morph into one another. So it is probably not a great surprise that the Washington Post is takiing its podcast full-time by launching its own radio station. It will be available locally on the air, bit will probably be more aimed at the internet and podcasting market – given that the Post is a national, and at least in part, international brand.

That is a development British newspapers should watch with interest. While our newspapers are fantastically varied, speech radio is largely a monoply of the politically-correct BBC. There is very little space for different views and opinions – a natural market for an enterprising paper to move into.
