Podcast from Lewis Blog Seminar

My latest podcast is from the blog seminar yesterday organised by Lewis PR in London. It was held at breakfast time, and I do not know if 80 or so people just turned up for the bacon sandwiches, but the turnout suggested that at last there are some stirings of interest among the British business community in what blogs can do for them.

The download is here. It’s 15 minutes long. For instant gratification, click the Play Podcast button in our sidebar.

There were three excellent speakers. My thanks to the first, Morgan McLintic of Lewis, who invited me to the seminar after he took part in our last podcast. Morgan explained what blogging was all about, and was persuasive about why business needs to understand it. I was taking notes, partly because I am always trying to tell people why it is important too.

Seminars are a great place to gather material for podcasts. I nabbed Loic Le Meur of Six Apart (makers of Moveable Type and TypePad blogging tools), who has a great French accent. I learned that he has his own daily podcast on French national radio, in which he talks to and about bloggers. It is the sort of profile that British bloggers can only dream of.

I also had a chat with Jo Twist, who writes about technology for BBC online. She is a journalist who follows what bloggers are writing, which proved its worth when a misunderstanding arose on the Micropersuasion blog by Steve Ruble. It is a good anecdote, which only goes to show why everyone should be aware of what the blogosphere is saying about them.

Until I tried podcasting, I had not realised how noisy our home is. When I was recording my voice here last night, there seemed to be a constant stream of sirens going past, not to mention airplanes overhead, and neighbours fighting across the way. I do not think any of the background noise made it onto the final recording. but it was mighty distracting for me at the time.

The relevant links follow in a seperate post filed under Home. (our podcast feed does not seem to like too many links).

  1. Great podcast, great sound quality.

I think smaller firms in the UK will be more willing to try their hand at blogs and podcasts before lumbering big business has a go. There loss I’d say.

An effective blog allows a smaller firm to establish themselves within their market, dominate search results and enure their site becomes a resource.
