Europe Debates Blogs

Could there be any worse news for blogs? While browsing A PR Guru’s Musings,  I came across this link to the European Parliament’s Blog Debates (They are hosting three sessions with media types invited to speak).

Some views expressed: "Bloggers behave as if they are in the Wild West,"  "A lot of weblogs are tripe" "blogs damage privacy."  The lack of a legal framework is "deplorable".

Implicit in these remarks (many of them by euro-journalists), is a longing for some sort of regulation. This was an informal debate, but the quotes are from a report on the Commission’s website, and you can note the slant that they chose to highlight.   Let’s hope that Euro-Members of Parliament were bored stupid by it.   Bloggers don’t need any attention from them.

Well, if the EU does decide to regulate blogs it might be just the boost they need.

Yes, I agree Matthew. It’s just what bloggers are hoping for. Interesting volumes of regulations to read, lovely forms to fill in, and visits from Euro-Inspectors when they get lonley. The EU could emmulate its agricultural policy, and pay bloggers a “set-aside” subside not to over produce.
